The Hallway Everyone Ignores

About

Hallways get the leftovers: the lampshade nobody wanted, the paint from the half-empty tin. Yet it is the room you walk through more than any other.

In this project the whole intervention cost less than a sofa. A wool runner the full length of the corridor, a rail of brass hooks at a consistent height, and warm bulbs at half the wattage the builder fitted.

What changed

The house now opens instead of apologising. Guests slow down. Coats have a home. If you can only improve one space this year, make it the six metres you use forty times a day.
